Veggie Delight

For a while now there has been a running joke with my friends that I may be a closeted vegetarian because of just how many vegan and vegetarian recipes I make on a regular basis. And I admit it… YES I LIKE MY VEGETABLES…most of the time. Ha! But, this has been a gradual process not some overnight freak occurrence.

Episode 8: Mini Chocolate Candy Bites

Pin It When we think about cleaning up our diets the first thing to go is generally dessert. WHY? Because dessert equals empty calories, excess sugar, and excess fat right? Wrong. Desserts can also be tasty and creamy as well as nutritious, also sweet without being just empty calories. How pray tell do I do […]

Image of scale featuring Detoxification
It has been a while since my last post, I know… but, I had a bit of summer-itis. It is FINALLY beautiful in New York. Fresh fruits and veggies are so abundant…all I wanted to do was eat fruits and cheese in the grass wearing garlands in my hair… Just kidding; well sort of kidding. All these things are huge issues when trying to eat healthier. But, am I really going to give up my cravings for Asian fast food: Not on your life. So, instead of giving it up as my nutritionist had hoped, I gave it a make over.  Continue reading

WHO? VITAMIN U?

Have you ever heard of Vitamin U? Don’t worry you’re not alone. I was walking around my favorite big box store a few weeks back and I saw an older man grabbing two giant bottles of Vitamin U supplements. What the hell is that I wondered. I have never heard of Vitamin U. Is this yet another fad in the health world? I needed to investigate. Dunt dunt dunnnn… Fingerlickinkitchen to the rescue.

Vitamin U was discovered by Dr. Garrett Cheney in 1952. He found that cabbage juice helped heal stomach ulcers. Which is how Vitamin U got it’s nickname from the Latin word Ulcus. Vitamin U, or S methylmethionine, is not actually a vitamin at all, but a derivative of methionine an essential amino acid (check out my Amino Acid blog entry)
