Pin ItOOOH FIBER! I had an off-hand conversation with a friend from work that lasted 45 minutes about her confusion over fiber. It went something like: “why do I need fiber? Isn’t there more than one type of fiber? What kind of fiber do I need? Is one better than the other? Why does fiber […]

WHO? VITAMIN U?
Have you ever heard of Vitamin U? Don’t worry you’re not alone. I was walking around my favorite big box store a few weeks back and I saw an older man grabbing two giant bottles of Vitamin U supplements. What the hell is that I wondered. I have never heard of Vitamin U. Is this yet another fad in the health world? I needed to investigate. Dunt dunt dunnnn… Fingerlickinkitchen to the rescue.
Vitamin U was discovered by Dr. Garrett Cheney in 1952. He found that cabbage juice helped heal stomach ulcers. Which is how Vitamin U got it’s nickname from the Latin word Ulcus. Vitamin U, or S methylmethionine, is not actually a vitamin at all, but a derivative of methionine an essential amino acid (check out my Amino Acid blog entry)

Seriously, what in the hell is the big deal about Kale!
“Everybody keeps telling me to eat Kale. Seriously, what in the hell is the big deal about Kale! ”
I was talking to a group of writer friends last night and the subject of Kale came up randomly. Well, not so randomly actually. Someone asked what I was up to and I mentioned fingerlickinkitchen of course. Which another friend so lovingly described as: the place where I make “cookies out of water”. Not really what I do but, hilarious none the less. The conversation some how meandered to Kale to which the statement above was made. I love these sorts of conversations! It is fodder for me to write about but, also a concrete way I can help others in this maddening quest to breakdown the mystery around food! So yeah, what the hell’s the big deal about Kale? Sleep has been limited; work has been 10-12 hr days, plus grad school apps, seeing friends’ shows, holidays prep, etc etc. This could have been the recipe for a total nutrition catastrophe of belly busting stress eating but, instead there was plenty of healthy […]
WARM WINTER TREAT!
As the temperature continues to drop in New York it makes me want to stay inside more and more wrapped up in blankets with a big huge cup of Spiced Apple Cider. The smell of cinnamon and cloves was my favorite part of going to Holiday Mass. The warm crisp apples dancing on your tongue with a hint of lemon or orange. It always makes me smile a kool-aid kid smile when I have a cup.

DIM SUM & A MOVIE
Last night two of my favorite things came together to create a perfect evening of laughter, discussions, and friendship. Dinner & Movie. A new friend had never seen the movie Working Girl. Yes, I know…a misfortune that I simply could not tolerate. So, I invited her over for dim sum. Dim Sum is a Cantonese meal of small snacks, dumplings and soups similar in fashion to Spanish Tapas or small plate meals. It allows you to create a huge variety of things to snack on while you chat.
